I hate to bitch about crap. But.. I'm really annoyed at certain users who have to go and cheat on anagrams. I was considering sponsoring the zone and giving away free stuff for points, but if yall are gonna cheat, then fuck it! It's not worth my time!
dont' blaim ya.... it's pathetic.....
how exactly would someone cheat at anagrames anyway? I can't see how it could be done! apart from ppl swapping lists of words, and my god! that seems extreme!
By using programs that generate anagrams for whatever words that people put in to them. I think it is rather obvious that anyone who can come up with all of the anagrams in less than 2 hours is definatly using such a program. Hell, I sat here for like 4 hours and could only come up with 200. I know I'm not a jenious or anything, but I have quite a farely large vocabulary. I would like to think so anyway. But that's not the point. The point is, that hpeople are cheating, and those who are actually trying are getting screwed because of it. Let me break it down a bit for you. From the last 20 days, the same person has won 10 times, and that same person has tied for first 4 other times. .Not only has this same person either won or tied for first 14 out of 20 days, but of the past 10, has won 7 times, soon to be 8. I'm not mentioning any names, but anyone with a half a brain cell can take one look at the results and see for themselves. Okay, so maybe people are good at anagrams. But no one person can be that good. If u don't believe me, try and come up with 368 anagrams in two hours yourself without any help, like someone else did tonight on here.
I don't even play the fucking annagrams anymore for that reason. 8:00 in the morning and someone already has all but 5 annagrams. I mean come on, they obviously didn't spend that tiem thinking of them.
I'd almost like to see anagrams taken down and replaced with another game that you can't cheat on. like word train, or something. I'm sure there are a lot of game ideas that could be done with out people cheating.
Well the game's going to stay up. Especially after the time I put into writing it, grin. Here's the problem I run into. There's definitely a person or persons who are probably cheating on the game. The problem is that there may be more than one, and if I suspend one account or take away points, I have to do it across the board. It's really hard to tell, especially with a word like today's which only has 100 anagrams. I've told a few people that if you think someone's cheating to confront them via Quicknote or private mail or Email. Those optoins are all available to you. Hell, they probably don't even read the boards so talking here probably doesn't do a ton of good.
I know this perosn is not reading their mail, or their notes. OH well. not much we can do.
You can Email them if they don't have their address blocked.
I definatly c where u r coming from J. Besides, you can't just start suspending people's accounts because others accuse them of cheating. And, once u do that to one account, more people will start complaining about others and then you'll have a full time job just in feeding complaints. The saddest part about this entire situation is that those pricks are not only hurting us, but themselves also. I mean, with all of this time we have all spent bitching, you guys could have been making improvements to the sight instead, so really, they're hurting themselves in the long run as well. Here's a suggestion, for whatever it is worth. Would it be possible to make it so that one person can only win the bonus like 3 times durring the week? This way, others still get a shot at the bonus, and maybe, just maybe, others will get a chance at winning. And, please do not can anagrams! It's still a fun game to play whether I can win the bonus or not, and I'm sure there are others who feel the same way.
I definitely know that there is cheating. Can there be a timer on this? You can't get all those words in a half hour. You can't type that fast and not have the computer freeze. I love the game, but it takes up a lot of time if you're not cheating. I wish we knew of a way to stop them! It takes the fun out of it, when we know that within a short period of time that the person or persons are going to get them all in.
I certainly agree with Jay. He put a lot of work into all this. I, for one, have been playing anagrams since '91. It took me the bbetter part of yesterday and all hours last night to come up with all the words that I had and still missed five, but it was a heck of a struggle. I kept making words from weird words that came out that I never even heard of it, but it took a period of 17 hours or something utterly rediculous. Last night the main winner achieved 113 words in 35 minutes. I timed it. It took over an hour to get 95 words and I still have 14 to go. The same three people had been at the top. When we did those 100 words, I took all day, even at work, trying to get them, so if anyone can tell me someone can get over 300 words in two hours, then I would like to know the secret. If it is seen the same person is winning, the bonus should go to someone else. And, Liam, I don't blame you for your feelings. I thought it'd be neat to donate prizes as I would have purchased little things to help out, but not when the same person continually wins. Thanks, Jay for the game, and I wish you could put together a game like this for purchase. I'd be right at the front door to buy it. Keep up your excellent work
I'm sure that the cheaters don't read these posts. It's unfortunate.
The only way one could get their anagrams in quickly is if they worked all day and wrote them down on a notetaker or in braille and then keyed them in. I do volunteer work and answer phones through the week, so while I'm answering the phones I can key in words on the braille lite, and then get home and key them in. However, if there are 300 words or even six hundred, which there were one day, it'd take more than two hours to get them in. There was one time when the person who scores the highest most of the time had 500 and some odd words in when I got up at 6:30 and checked the word of the day out. I enjoy the game and even though I've never come in first, it doesn't bother me. I just want to see the game stay here. The sad part is that people don't consider themselves cheating. I saw a quick note on the 16th of April that read something like: I can't find any anagram cites. Where do I go to get them! Oh, well. I hope you all are having a good day! It's in the 80's here, sun shiny and all is great for Mom's Day. Didn't hear from my stepdaughters, though. Sighs.
I wonder if it is at all possible for the admin or web site team to key in words and time themselves just to see how long it would take to put in so many words per hour. And, is there a way where a timer could be used so that a person couldn't get over one hundred words in a half hour? I just would like to see that the person doing the cheating can be stopped. I love playing that game and it certainly takes time to put all those words in. There are words that are there that most people would never get unless they have an anagram book/generator.
Well, the main thing is that a cheater has to answer for him/herself. I think your idea is a great one! It wouldn't be me keying in words because my typing is so bad I have to keep retyping words to get them in right in the first place. My typos become words so sometimes having problems with my hands can be to my advantage. Smiles.
I may as well stick in my two cents here as well. I haven't played the anagram game a while lot but my wife, and a couple friends have played it some and I think it was my wife, who mentioned about the same person seeming to always get the word. My suggestion, may not necessarily solve the problem, but what if the top 5 winners got points. say, something like 500 for the top, 400 for second place, 300 for 3rd, 200 for 4th, and 100 for 5th. There would be some consolation for one's efforts.
What about if a person wins, not let them win the next. They can still play and do what they do, but they don't get counted, thus making it less attractive to cheat.
to reduce cheating maybe there should be a group of words each day and say users 1-100 would get a word and so on then check and see which group the cheater is in then do a temperrarty block orf there id from the game
I'm new to the Zone and enjoy Anagrams, so let me put in my 2 cents worth about cheating. I decided to go back and look up the results since April 14 th . I noticed a lot of thr people complaining seem to be in the top 5 winners about 99% of the time. Scores are all either thr same or differ by only 1 or 2 words. How can you accuse a person of cheating reflects such closeness? It appears the pot is calling the kettle black. Example "coathanger & Poohe bear". How can people accuse others of cheating when their scores are just as high as the winners? Also, the positions roll over when the final words are put in, so who can say who is doing what? It appears those who are bitching should clean up their own acts before they accuse others. It is sad, some sit idle in the Zone and watch what others do, so it appears they are spending more time looking up words. FUCK IT, I don't need this petty shit, if people complaining don't cheat, how do they get all the words? Check out the scores for the last month and draw your own conclusions. There sure seems to be a lot of back stabbing out there. I like to play, I've played word games all my life. This is just another example of the petty blind community.
well i dont know i dont play the game because when i do i only get two or three words and you cant say somethin about everyone on here cause for one i dont spend a lot of time here i am a junior in high school and have other things i do
The cheating that I've seen has taken the fun out of the game. I for one won't be back.
do not think anyone begrudges anyone taking first place. In my years and years experience in playing anagrams, it has been rare to succeed at securing all if not lacking one or two words within an hour's or two hours' time. Folks take exception toward the limited amount of time it takes the same two people to reach the top. I don't see that anyone is stabbing anyone as the messages are here for anyone to read. 368 words in two hours is an awful lot. It takes me anywhere from seven to 14 hours with breaks, of course, to get the words. One person has more than 18,000 points which is a clear indication that person is getting the 500 points more than 90% of the time. I don't have to answer for anyone but myself. The words I acquire are gotten honestly, but with lots of hours. I had concerns and was directed to write on the board and that's what I have done. If folks are such speed demons on the computer and can guess that many words immediately, I congratulate you on such a vast vocabulary. Happy anagraming.
hate to burst your bubble, but some of us play other games besides Anagrams. I for one spend hours and hours on hangman and blinko. If you play Blinko enough, you can really rack up the points without having to play Anagrams at all Playin Blinko really adds up the points if you are good at it. Playing and winning at Blinko for 2 or 3 hours racks up the points faster than spending 12 hours trying to think up words and typing your arms off.
You got the points wrong. Try blingo. If you're good with word games this is a great one. You can rack the points up fast if you are quick at it. I spend many hours here. So rack them up. Have fun. I do.
Well in every corner of the world where there's competition, you'll always get those who look for short cuts to cheat their fellow competitors. They're simply sad and disrespectful shitheads. I like to play the word games, and I like to go as far as possible on my own intelligence and skills, but I've got as much savvy as these cheats to know you just type in something like, `scrabble word finder' into your google search engine and it'll come up with a few options on how to get all the psssible anagrams in a given selection of letters. Take the reward away for the most words found... I'll explain next post, and the cheats will get bored and stop.
Hastler, that's not a bad idea. I'd want to think about it a bit more, but does anyone else have any comments on doing that and jsut giving a point or 2 points per anagram found? Gotta agree on Blingo. I also happen to be good at the game since I watched it a lot on GSN and can get lots of points fast there. BTW, for anyone who cares iI play this account completely fairly i.e. I don't use admin powers to give me points. I don't have admin access onthis account. I only use the admin account for testing stuff, so I can use this one to play with the rest of ya.
Ok, here's the answer. Hypothetically, lets say there are 200 possible anagrams to a certain word. Ok, go and find as many as you can. Next day, the zone bbs admin selects a random number, between 75 and 100% of that target figure, and the person closest to that random number, get's the prize. This way, you have to be pretty good to attain 150 t+ answers, so you're still going to award those with merit related to their intelligence. Ok, that's my two pence worth. Happy gaming, and remember, I'm involved in golf for the blind, and in thhat community, we always say, hey, if you ain't prepared to lose gracefully , don't compete.
As a friend said to me, "we have the right to back pedal" and that's what I'm doing. I'm back playing the game.
Hi all,
Just to say, today, I looked at the little programme I found to search out all possible anagrams to a given word, and it showed 158 answers for MONOLITHIC. Now I saw those regular cheats all had 156, so I took great pleasure in topping them all!
As for the prize, I don't want the points, please donate them to a random member admin want to select, or to the person who has closest to 100 anagrams at midnight.
I was just making a point and had a little smile to myself. I won't be using it again, until I exhaust my own brain, and want to look at all the possibilities the next day.
Happy times to all!
Hastler.
Hmmm, the points thing is automatic. But I can take away your 658 or however many it is if you want.
I think there are too many points given for winning at Anagram Mania . Why not award say 100 points for the winner or 1 point per word so everyone gets points? Giving 500 points makes it too competative and people under the top 5 receive no reward for their efforts. Now that everyone has been alerted to the anagram generators, there is for sure no honesty out there as seen by yesterdays word . People are running the list now in 40 to 45 minutes while the rest of us are still struggling. I enjoy this site and the games here but I wonder if there is a way that Anagrams could be run like Blingo where no one knows what anyone else is doing so there would be less urge to compete and play dishonestly.
I think I may do that, though we are already giving one point for word now plus the 500. but I think I may either cut out the 500 bonus or severely limit it.
I see where one persons score was cut by about 10 or 12 thousand points just recently. Nothing like picking out one scapegoat to pay for what a lot of others have been doing. To make things fair, I think the point system needs an overhaul and the points should be started over at the beginning of each month, thus letting no one rack up a huge number of points. I see some putting in 150+ words in less than an hour and there is nothing done about it. The number of words gotten by the players should not be posted as the game is in progress, thus no one would try to outdo anyone else. The points don't mean anything anyhow, so why is it such a big deal who has a lot or a few. Awarding points for anything just encourges some to try and outdo others no mater how they go about it. Anyone who has been a high scorer in the last month should loose points, not just one person. With this talk of amagram sites, no one knows for sure who is playing fair and who isn't. Anybody can say anything and no one really knows for sure what is what. I see today 3 or 4 players on top who have never been even near the top before, just wondering, guess they are really getting into the spirit now. If you are going to use a site, you are going to use it to win, so it is clear what some are doing. Anagram Mania is a fun game, just remember that's all it is, just a game..
Hmmm. I'll have to check that out. I didn't do that.
OK. Fixed that person's points and put in something so that shouldn't happen again. Also while I'm here, fixed a bug that was telling some people that they had found all of the words for an anagram when they hadn't.
I feel that when we play the game, that there are people sitting and watching, and as son as I get close to them, they shoot out a load of words and then sit and watch me and again, when I get close, they shoot out more words. Is there any way that no one's scores are shown until theend when all the words are shown?
I, for one, often put my words together on my m20 braille lite unit and then put them in on the site. I work as a volunteer for two places, the Red Cross and a beauty salon as receptionist. If I didn't do my words on the notetaker, I would not be able to play the game. Then, when I get home, I put in my words. So, can conceivably get your words in fairly quick. I couldn't get words in that quickly because I mistype a lot because of my hands and have to retype. Why use a generator to get words? There is no challenge to it. I agree that the scores should not be shown until the game is over. When I was putting my words in one night. As soon as I'd get closer, a person would hurriedly add six to ten words more. When I got to about 379, the person jumped to the top. This is just a game and not a contest. I like playing and today was the second time I ever got to win two games and that was when there were fewer words. I have a pattern that I use. For example, I started today with the letter a as it's the first in the alphabet and work from there. Then after I get all my words, I try to jin words together. Then I scrample words to get more, and then I start putting letters in front or after the words. If I were to have to use a generator, I'd never make it because I would not be able to use my hands tha much and it wouldn't be a challenge for me. Whoever uses a generator is losing out on a lot of fun. If you play the game right, each day you remember words that came from previous days' words. I'm playing for myself to have fun, and for no one else. I'm glad the game is available. I would prefer that the scores not be shown at all until the end. I only play for fun and that's it. It took me a long time to get my words today, but I got them all honestly. Forgive mistakes, lots of problems with hands.
I hope that now that the points on Anagrams are changed, all the bitching will end. As for sitting and watching, I see that a lot, people just sit in Anagrams for 30 or 40 minutes watching and waiting like a vulture getting ready to pounce when they see someone getting close to winning so they can roll over them. Now that the points have changed, everyone will have a chance to get points, not just the top 5 or whoever uses a dictonary the fastest. The ones complaining now about others watching are the ones last week who commented that they were doing it to keep an eye on how many words were put in how fast by how many. If you don't want to be watched, don't watch. I was playin today and had to answer the door and didn't log out, so the times show I was idle, so am I guilty for answering my door? An idle period of a few minutes may just mean you have other things to do, an idle period of an hour is more like spying. It would be nice if nobody could watch what others do, like hide the scores untill the last few minutes before the game is over. Or maybe don't show the score at all, just award the points like is done in Blingo or Hangman.
well, I also used an anagram generator. It took me a little more than an hour to put the words in. I used it a couple of days in a row around midnight making sure a certain member would not get to win. On friday, we discussed this issue with liam and he removed the points this person had won on anagrams. Today, I check and the point are back intact. What is going on?
I thought that since the majority of members had expressed discontent with another member's behavior steps would be taken to correct that. It was done and now it's undone. I do understand the issue of "if we do this for one we have to do it for all" but how can so many members ONLY complain about this one member? Are we all wrong? Is that really the best approach?
That's exactly it, and we can't just take away points for one person when there are others, including those who have admitted to doing it. How is cheating just to stop someone else from winning any better than what they're alledgedly doing?
I really highly commend the two individuals who admitted to having cheated and stated why they did that. Anyone who moves forward with such admission must contain a great deal of credibility. I admire anyone who has the ability to use an generator for whatever purpose. I can''t even think of doing it because I don't have the fine motor coordination in my hands to b able to do it. I really think it would be a good idea for us to see only our own scores while the game is in process. It's very disturbing to me when I am making every effort I can to come up with my own words to have someone to appears to be lying in wait. When I would get three words away from one of two people's scores, they'd hurridly put in six to eight more words. I can't even think of words that quickly. So, is it possible for us to see our own number of words only until the game is over? It's not going to cut down on the cheating, but it sure would make some of us feel better while we are playing the game. I didn't play monolithic because that was a hard word for me. In any case, I'm going to continue playing the game regardless of what anyone else does. Do we see people's scores in other games? I have only played Blingo, so I don't know for sure. I only know that I can only do the best I can with what I've got. I'm glad I can't get to aweb site and go back an dforth. Human nature dictates temptation in all things, so they say. Johnny, I don't think people purposely time anyone. It's just that when we're playing the game we know how long we've been out there. I know for a fact that 15 minutes after a person came out, they had 128 words. How can anyone get them in that quickly. I know my computer would jam if I typed that fast! Smiles. Let's just play the game and have fun. We only have to answer for ourselves and no one else.
These last couple days, I've been seeing people getting all the words. I only come up with half the words in 24 hours. Is it cheating, or is it experience?
Remember, now among the things to help you out are the word lists from the past words, found on the results pages.
I want to come clean and tell you my process. I try to come up with as many words on my own as I can, then I cheat and find the rest on a very reliable anagram solver website. I think from now on I won't be so high and mighty and just try everything on my own. Not that you severely guilted me, now i just feel bad for not exercising my brain enough. it's like I'm using the remote control instead of getting a really old tv with knobs on it. Tomorrow starts the new way to play anagrams for me, hehe. Kate
I was one of the only people on the site last night. I was the only person playing anagrams, and i was doing pretty well till some people came on and quickly overtook me wordwise. Look, nost of us have to think a while before putting a word and with some words like the one last night, it's not easy. We all know who these cheaters are, they're the same people who allways make the top 3 every day. So listen. YOu know who you are. I love anagrams and I know a lot of other people do too, so let's try and make this an honest game and let other people get the bragging rights for once.
I have someting to say, and I will say because I did and i feel bad.
I did cheat in yesterday's anagram. I am really sorry, but yes. But one of the good things is that I get bored of my dictionary and stopped at 50 or so! sorry again for cheating.
If you cheat, youwill win, but you will not feel so good for doing it
thanks Liam for putting this topic out!
agreed with everyone here. I annoyingly live in a different time zone, and it means that whenever I'm awake enough to start the game, there are already cheaters way in the lead. and I can only think of on average 100 anagrams per word.
I agree that something should be implemented (if possible) to deter these cheats, and i like some of the ideas so far on this.
It's a shame that there are people in this world who like to ruin it for the honest ones!
Good luck all! and let's see us honest anagrammers hitting the top ten! :)
Upon reading this topic again, I really love the idea of the results not being displayed until the end. Like maybe even when the next day's work goes up, it could say "yesterday's top ten" or, even "yesterday's winner" maybe with the winning thing, there could be a timer or something set up. Of course i don't know how easy this all is; I am not that puter literate Lol! but maybe just maybe that might eliminate some of the cheating. I dunno .. there is no real concrete answer. :(
btw, just thought I'd share, I'm hopeless at Blyngo! :( and even Hangman! :(
I would like to reppeat something I said in another simmilar post
unfortunately those people won't understand what is the word "stop" they receive a lot of points, but they look ridiculous. Just the same way every day,
they are the only people who is in the top. Its unfair! I mean, why cheating? what is the fabulous point? just think about it
Ok, I was really wondering why all of a sudden these same people were getting every single word when I would log on at like 7 something in the morning, and I hadn't even started yet. It all makes perfect since, because if they hadn't been cheating on the game, they would've had to have started on it at like let's see, midnight?
I think they sign in at 4 A.M or something, and use those popular anagram generators to cheat
I wouldn't doubt it. I've only been able to get about 30 or so, and somehow or another, someone else is mysteriously able to get every last one of them.
And it was like 8 or so when I signed this morning to try to play the thing.
I have it figured this way. Cheaters are going to cheat no matter what is done to stop it. I find the words I find and that is all. I'm far from the best so I'm not in the running anyway. What I do is guess all I can and wait until the next day. If I end up in the top half of the group, I'm ok with that. I would get really griped off if the points we get were of a value greater than that of bragging on the zone but they're not so the cheaters don't piss me off as much as they could. Hell, if the best they can do to win is be top dog on a BBS in an anagram game I don't have a problem with that. Hell, they're not winning at selling the most drugs to kids that we know about anyway. The point to this is it's just a game and if I do better at it this time than I did the last time, I'm improving and that is all that matters to me.
I see your point, but at the same time, whoever's doing it, does it so regularly, that those who actually do try to play the game honestly, may not be able to even get to that point, because the person who cheated on it will have already done it.
So it's like in order for any of us to get anywhere, we'll all have to start playing their game, and that's really sad. Some of us may not be able to think of half the words before the person who's cheated on the game will have already gotten every last one of them, and that's not right.
I know, I'm getting tired of seeing the same names up there constantly.
Troy
Join the club. Not to sound like a child, but i can't even get to the halfway mark a good bit of the time, simply because I can't think of a lot of words that would generate from the words that are thought of that would make sense, and all these people have to do is use some other program to think of the words for them?
I'm not gonna lie to you here, I've gotten to the point now where at times I'm tempted to stoop to that level right along with them, if that'll get me anywhere, because I'm sick and tired of barely being able to get anywhere, when these same people are able to get every last one of them.
Ya wanna play hard ball? No problem.
The game isn't hard to play. I look for the obbvious anagrams then I rhyme, then I add letters at the beginning, end of the word: ar, er, st, ed, ly, ing, ation, tion, ion, etc. That usually gives me a quarter of the word list or a half of the word list. Then when I feel my brain can't run anymore I stop and play other games. I play Blingo and Hangman and rack the points up there. Usually if I'm bored at the end of the day (while not on here because have the word list on note pad.) I do look the word up. But I don't play for points, I use it for my brain. It's a great excersie for your brain. Also, I sometimes play at midnight/1 AM East bc I can't sleep...thats when I see the majority of the cheaters. And I also reconize the same deal with speed. I add my words on note pad then add them later on As far as rankings are concerned, I made it as top as number one last night...to be thrown off at 3 or 4 am by the cheaters. So it doesn't bother me if I'm not #1, thats so Elementary School but ya I feel bad for those who gotta be upset because those who ruin it, ruin it for everyone.
Hi,
You know, I was thinking about the points, and wondering why we don't get anything for them? lol
Anyways, I think we should get something, I mean nothing big, but some of us sit here and earn all these points and we get nothing. I've seen people with over 10000000 points and that's crazy.
As far as the cheaters, I'm sure the leaders know who they are, and why can't you just kick them, or band them from the game? It's not fare to us when all those people get the points, and we don't get anything for putting in the effert that we do.
Ryan
Oh I agree that this is a problem but not worth me getting pissed off. It's just sad that people like beach baby and johnny reb have to cheat. By the way, they can do it when they're not even on the site. I must admit I did it a couple of times and then saw the stupidity of it, so I'm not being a self-righteous hypocrite because I should not have done it either. But when people feel the consistent need to cheat all the time, they have to get a life...johnny reb and beach baby to be exact, in case you didn't register the names the first time.
Eddie
Oh for goodness sake not this can of worms again! These anagram cheats are no better than young offenders and should be sent to prison for the rest of their lives where they spend their days being forced to make as many anagrams as they can out of all the letters of a different play or novel every week. So, week 1 they could have Romeo and Juliet, then the next week Hamlet etc. and for every anagram that they miss, twenty lashes. Jonaweb, Beach Baby, Alana317 perhaps, you should all be rounded up and drowned in the sea.
well, because the word of the day was a little late the other day, there were only 7 players, and guess what? I was in the top 6 for a while. My name was at the top for a bit, then it got down to the 4th, then I had come to the end and thought of as many as I could, so I left it for a while, then when I came back, the cheaters were back, so I wasn't on the top 5 anymore. I always wondered how the rest of us would do when they weren't playing. I know I'll never get half of them, even if there weren't any cheaters. I'll never be a full time game addict anyway, but it is a time passer, and I get just enough anagrams to make it interesting. I bet I'll never be on the top 5 again, lol.
wonderwoman
lol ll anyways yah thats quite weird, I like when people cannot guess a word, lets say, josecuerno. The minimum word size is 7, they get like 22 out of 28 or something so they don't win the same golden 300 points they used to get.... haha
well, I got them all once, and have figured on the leaderboard on numerous occasions, without cheating. I should add that the culprets should be made to wear lead boots to help them drown a bit easier and to counter any swimming that they might do. Drown Jonaweb, beach baby, Alana317, in the sea!
They're up there again, I see. They never learn, do they? Why don't they ever display their erudite vocabularies on the boards eh? Tell me that!
Hehehe well put, LL!
Well you can't simply say that I cheat because I don't get them all every day. And for me to get them all, it would take me more than a half hour or 2. I can't get all the words in a half hour unless the word is a short one. I might get close to getting all but I don't always find them all. I might get them all once or twice, or three times a week but not 7 days a week. I notice we all would get help from other members if they're playing with you, do you call that cheating? And how do we know that people are cheating anyway? Is not like we go to people's houses and look at their computers to see what they're doing, right?
Oh i think we know that there are some sod-fathers out there who cheat. And a half hour or two? don't two half-hours make an hour?
well, I got on the top 5 or 6 once or twice, but there were only 7 players, and I was the 4th one on the list, but after I thought of all the words I could, I left, and when I went back, there the others were, and I was no longer on the top 5. Well I know I will never find them all, even if there weren't any cheaters, I'm just not that good. I can find more if the word is longer, than I can if it's shorter. and I don't get as many if the minimum word size is over 3. Lol, if the word size was 7, I wouldn't even bother trying, I'd probably get only 2 or 3.
wonderwoman
Wonder woman, I'm with you on that one. I can't get them all if the minimum size is over 3. I just don't see how these cheaters can get it, really I would like to know how it all works. Too bad I can't ask them, they have everything blocked so they can't get any messages. Incredible incredible incredible!
they're sod-fathers like I said, drown them in the sea, and preferably one of the more dangerous seas as well, not the English channel or anything too warm around the mediterranean. how about the North Sea?
well they use an annagram generator. I saw beach baby shoot up to the top of the leaders list once...one...two three four...five... ... ... twenty ... ... .. thirty ... ... ... fourty ........(later) she's at the top.
What do they do they let the generator do the typing instead of them doing the typing? Is it like the generator shoot in words for them so they don't have to type it?
Or do they automatically know what the next word would be and they write the word list from the generator on paper and then come here and shoot them to get to the top?
it's bound to type it for them, Imean, if they get on the top 5 in a matter of minutes. I can only get about 50 or 60 in an hour sometimes, and that depends on how quick or how slow I come up with them. I don't even get half, even if the minimum word size is 3. Oh well, I'm glad I'm not competitive. I'm just curious to see how many I can find. The most I ever found was 161. I wonder if the sighted ones play, because mom says it's probably easier to find more if you can see the word, but I'm not sure about that.

I got 290 in about an hour and a quarter once. but anyway, in my view, the cheaters should be flushed into the Thames with all the other turds, to quote from Blackadder.
i don't know what the solution to this problems is, I think the seven day rule on winning the top prize is a good one though.
I don't think it really matters as the 'prize' in quotes isn't really a prize. it's not as i fyou win a DVD player or something. Just flush all the cheaters into the Thames like I say.
i don't understand how anyone could cheat either. because how would others know unless there that stupid to tell others. oh it is a shame a few people have to ruin it for others because i think prizes would have bin a good insentive to get peoples brain ticking over.
Obviously, there isn't anything that anyone can do to stop cheating while playing anagrams. I'm on the side of many people who posted to this board. It makes me so upset when I see the same peopel winning day after day after day. The rules say that one person will win once every seven days, but I have found this to be untrue, as I'm sure most of you have as well. I've seen the same person win two, or even three, days in a row. It's very unfair. It doesn't give anyone else a chance to win. I, myself, have won maybe three times, but I have another complaint as far as winning goes. When you win, you're supposed to win double the amount of words you found, in points, right? Well, the times that I won, I did not receive any points. Why is this? Yes, I do receive the 100 points for finding at least ten, but I have never won the other points when I win the overall game.
I totally agree about not receiving your points when they pick your name. I haven't received my points yet and I was picked a couple days ago. It's just not fair, but I love playing the game anyway. Peaches.
I think it is unfair to have cheaters in anagrams, and you all have good solutions. Even though there are cheaters, I still like the game. It is fun and challenging.
Hi,
I think all of these ideas are good to stop the cheaters and should be inmplimented. Award like a point or half a point per word. Take away the big prize of winning. Make a timer so that people can only come up with sixty wirds an hour or something. Make it so your score can only be seen by you until either the very end of the game, or the next day, so that people can't jump ahead with words. Take away the leader positions so that people can't see where anyone else is on the game. I hardly play anymore, because I hate being make to feel like an idiot thanks to the cheaters.
Take Care,
Dawnielle
I agree with your ideas. I don't like cheaters, but these ideas should be implemented.
Its a shame certain people have to have every word every single day. May be no life??? I will admit that I have cheated on smaller words, but only its around 50 words or so, may be I want to see myself at the top for once. In saying that, I like challenging my mind, just putting in words any one can do that. please get a life!!!
In my opinion, anagrams is addicting! I still love it, and I love those kind of challenges.
Is swapping word lists with each other still classed as cheating or just helping?
Methinks it remains cheating.
Warning - long message because I am lousy at brevity:
Well, I really enjoy playing anagrams. I am not a regular the way some who posted here are. I just do it when I am up late at night not sleeping or trying to kill time where I have computer
access and nothing else to do. When a particular day's game really interests me I'll write out anagrams on a braile lite when I don't have computer access and enter them later. When a
particular sequence of letters fits with however my brain functions, I can chug out a high percentage of anagrams really fast and sometimes surpass for a while the people who are
considered to be cheaters. I never win since I don't have the time, patience, attention span, or some combination of all three that I would need. The only outside help I ever get is maybe
once a month or so I will plug some words into a regular dictionary site to try to get spellings I'm not sure of so I can get a pattern for a word that will be a root to a lot of others. I was a
good speller till sixth grade and then sometime after that my reading skills got slower until my reading vision went away. It was thirteen years after that that I learned to read braille on
my own after the agency when I was a kid didn't want to teach me and I rarely get enough braille to read to learn to spell a lot of the words I would not have used as a kid. Just as an
example of what someone good at words can do, when I found someone to sit and feed me the braille, I learned the grade one symbols and the whole grade 2 system of contractions
in about two hours - two hours later I wrote them a letter on a braile writer in grade two with maybe two or three errors. I still couldn't read it, but I had the code.
Well, that tside track is what ADHD gives me. Anyway, back to anagrams, Mostly why I can't maintain the speed is the same brain on my head has a poor memory and I lose track of
what I've entered already and I learned a long time ago playing anagrams on the franklin that the way to get them all is using a pattern - like, with a short string you can work out every
possible combination of three letters and if you don't think at all and just plug in every possible combination, you get a lot that you wouldn't have thought were words. Then you get used
to those weird words. Four letter words take longer but you can stil use patterns starting with the same three letter options and ruling out sequences of letters that never go together in
english. I don't use the patterns anymore except on short anagrams because I get bored and find it more fun to just bounce all over the place as fast as possible. It's my Attention
defecit issues competing with my math and pattern skills. Anyway, all this is to say that it is credibly possible to me that the people accused of cheating really are not. If I can get 200
anagrams without stopping to think and at that point was beating out the high scorers and I believe during one of the few times I did that I was also carrying on a quick note
conversation with someone, well, I type about 50 words a minute and am good with words so someone just needs to be a faster typist, have a better memory than I have, and maybe a
particular brain ability - they don't have to be a genius or anything. I do suspect people of using generators but I bet the consistent high scorers wouldn't bother to deny it if they weren't
because nobody would believe them so why bother. If they are not, I find them intriguing. If they are, I think they are somewhat bizarre people as, even if you are into competing for
points, even under the old system that was less random, I can earn more points in an hour of hi-low than one would get winning at anagrams in a year. so, you have to be a rather
boring mechanical person to sit for an hour every day and copy words from one place to another. If I were good at that, I'd do it for money.
I have found I do get competitive and when I see someone who is about on my level with anagrams and I see them surpass me and then vice versa, I get into it for a while but I guess
not as competative as others because if someone is just so much better or faster than me or using a generator or whatever, it doesn't bother me. What I do wish is, in general, and
maybe this deserves a post of its own, is that the games that take more skill and time would get more points. It clearly couldnt' happen for anagrams because of the cheating concerns,
but the competative streak in me has me playing far too much hhi-low than I have time for and clearly I find the competition compelling enough or addictive enough to keep doing it if
not to the point of actually hitting the top, but how much more challenging if, say, blackjack could win even more points, and, of course lose evenn more since it's triky and stacked for
the house, but once I hit the point where I could play it and at least come out even consistently over a session, I stopped playing because of my points addiction. If I knew there was a
bonus for me the times I come out ahead, I might play enough to
